Permissions and blocking failures

Start with the checks below if setup is waiting for permission or a distracting app or website still opens.

Allow the background helper

System-level blocking needs Hyud's authorized background helper.

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac, then General, then Login Items & Extensions.
  2. Allow Hyud to run in the background and authorize the change if macOS asks.
  3. Return to Hyud and select "I allowed" to continue setup.
  4. If you use browser-level blocking, also grant the permissions requested for your supported browser.

If authorization still fails, note the exact prompt or error and contact support rather than changing unrelated system permissions.

An application is not blocked

  1. Check that the intended application appears in "Blocked Applications". Use "Block an app" to add it if needed.
  2. Check that "Enable applications blocker" is on.
  3. If you selected "Block applications at system level", check the helper authorization above. This mode supports blocking when Hyud is closed.
  4. If you are using the service in a browser, block its website too. Blocking an application does not automatically block its website.

Save your work before checking application blocking: Hyud closes blocked applications.

A website is not blocked

  1. Check that "Enable website blocking" is on and select "Apply configuration" after changing your list.
  2. Check the domain you actually visit, including different domains or subdomains, and remove any unintended whitelist exception.
  3. If you selected a category, add the missing domain explicitly. Categories contain predefined lists, not every site on a topic.
  4. For system-level blocking, check the background helper. This mode blocks domains, not individual URL paths.
  5. For browser-level blocking, check that your browser is supported and its requested permissions are granted.

Something stays blocked

Check whether a focus session is still active. Turning off manual blocking does not necessarily remove an active session's rules. Wait for the session to finish before checking again.

Still need help?
